From the first moment I saw this antique Empire Chest I was in love. The plain lines, the big undecorated, round knobs on the large dovetailed drawers. The rounded top drawer. And all the solid Walnut pieces sturdily put together with square nails. What a practical beauty!
But since I loved it so much I was a little hesitant to touch it. I envisioned the cracked paint replaced by one of my newest finishes called ‘firewood’. Brown with a hint of black, no sheen.
It took a while. The refinishing process was… well let’s put it this way: working outside in the sun made it fun. And usually every start has a finish, so here it is. Back in its new glory Ready for another century of being loved.
